Mobile hosts may either be connected directly to a LAN, or by a dial-up serial connection (GSM or ordinary telephone) to a Mobility Support Gateway (MSG) on the LAN. When the mobile host is directly connected to the LAN, regular TCP/IP communication is used. When a mobile host disconnects from the LAN, a TCP connection splits into two separate connections one on the serial link from the mobile host to the MSG and one on the wired network from the MSG to the peer host.

A proposed mobile architecture for a distributed database environment

Much research has been devoted to mobile computing and database query management with the advent of portable computers and wireless communication systems. This paper proposes an architecture based on current mobile models, but with the addition of a mailbox, which serves as a storage area for the mobile hosts. Mobile Hosts (MHs) and Mobile Support Stations (MSSs) are connected over a wireless v...

Standards: TCP in a Wireless World

M obile wireless is one of the more challenging environments for the Internet protocols, and for TCP in particular. One approach to supporting the wireless environment is the so-called “walled garden.” Here the transport protocol used within the mobile wireless environment is not TCP, but is instead a transport protocol that has been specifically adapted to mobile wireless. In this model, Inter...

Dynamic Mobile IP and Nice-TCP for Improving TCP/IP Performance

1 This research was based on work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. IIS 19979453. Abstract Mobile IP is an Internet protocol designed to support host mobility. It provides the host the ability to stay connected to the Internet regardless of its location. This paper presents a modified Mobile IP protocol, (Dynamic Mobile (IP-DM-IP)). DM-IP eliminates triangular routing...

Reduction of Energy Consumption in Mobile Cloud Computing by ‎Classification of Demands and Executing in Different Data Centers

In recent years, mobile networks have faced with the increase of traffic demand. By emerging mobile applications and cloud computing, Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) has been introduced. In this research, we focus on the 4th and 5th generation of mobile networks. Data Centers (DCs) are connected to each other by high-speed links in order to minimize delay and energy consumption. By considering a ...
